Seeing Is Believing II w/ Freefilmers

In response to the ongoing war against the Ukrainian civilian population, anorak is hosting a solidarity screening and fundraiser with works by the film collective Freefilmers (UKR). Following the initiative of our friends and colleagues from WET, we will present a short film programme to support the community of underground artists and cultural workers in Ukraine who suffer from Putinist Russia’s aggression.

Freefilmers is a union of like-minded filmmakers, making work which focuses on human life and the struggle for equality and freedom. The organisation promotes independent filmmaking in Ukraine, especially in its eastern part, and works towards decentralising cultural processes. Currently, they are organising different forms of resistance against the ongoing invasion and occupation.

On the night, you’ll be able to purchase solidarity tickets (10€/15€/20€). All earnings from ticket sales and the bar will go directly to Freefilmers.

No registration is needed, but there is a limited capacity of seats. Doors open 7.30pm, screening starts at 8.00pm. The films are shown in their original version with English subtitles. The current COVID-19 pandemic containment regulations apply.

Seeing Is Believing is a monthly screening series dedicated to artists’ moving image. The programme is an occasion for a joint exploration of experimental film practices that oscillate between the desire to make sense of the world and the contradictions and inconsistencies it inhabits. Seeing Is Believing is curated by Lukas Ludwig and Johanna Markert and realised with the kind support of Anorak e. V. members.
