anorak launches their new space in Berlin with the first edition of Seeing Is Believing, a monthly screening and conversation series dedicated to artists’ moving image. Every month we invite an artist, filmmaker or curator to show works and discuss with a small audience. Seeing is Believing is an occasion for a joint exploration of the moving image, a surface on which gazes meet, overturn and divide, on which images transform and develop a life of their own.
Screening:
For Vincent, Dani ReStack, 2021, 50′′, colour, stereo, 16:9, HD video
Platonic, Dani ReStack, 2013, 21′, colour, stereo, 16:9, HD video
Hard As Opal, Dani ReStack and Jared Buckhiester, 2015, 29′, colour, stereo, 16:9, HD video
Dani ReStack describes the creation of her moving image works as a process of “accumulation and excision.” Her films make palpable the emotional life of disparate animate and inanimate worlds. Using both scripted and found source material, ReStack generates complex layers of meaning through montage, rendering micro-narratives of mortality and desire.
There is a limited capacity of seats; please register here in advance.
The films and conversation will be in English. FFP2 mask and 2G+ are required for this event.
Seeing Is Believing is curated by Lukas Ludwig and Johanna Markert, and realised with the kind support of Anorak e. V. members and Video Data Bank.
