anorak Studio Residency – Open Call 2026

anorak invites Berlin-based artists, curators, and researchers working in time-based media, writing, translation, publishing, and culinary projects to submit collaborative proposals for a 3-month residency at the shared anorak studio in Berlin-Tempelhof from 1 July – 30 September 2026.

Berlin-based practitioners can apply with a collaborator to work for 3 months in the shared anorak studio. Collaborations may take place with partners based outside of Berlin or internationally, as well as between Berlin-based practitioners. Both new and existing collaborations are welcome including proposals by collectives who wish to collaborate with someone external. The residency is suitable for projects that will benefit from a shared studio environment and an extended in person work period.

We are particularly interested in experimental approaches across artistic communities, practices, and forms of knowledge that challenge notions of discipline, genre, canon, authorship, coherence, and censorship.

About the residency

With a focus on process and research rather than production, we hope to enable informal exchange and dialogue as well as more formalised sharing sessions.

The residency offers access to the anorak studio for 3 months between 1 July – 30 September 2026. Up to three projects will be selected from different fields and offered to work alongside each other in a shared space. 

Over the course of the three-month residency period, residents are invited to organise one ‘sharing session’ to discuss work-in-progress with each other as well as invited guests. At the end of the residency, there is the opportunity to present work publicly, parallel to Berlin Art Week (9–13 September 2026).

The anorak studio

anorak is a curatorial collective and independent art space with a focus on artists’ moving image, performance, and sound run by Lukas Ludwig and Johanna Markert. The anorak studio is located on the 8th floor of the former Greenhouse building in Berlin-Tempelhof and consists of:

• a 120 sqm shared studio / gallery space + a separate small studio for meetings
• the space can be divided by curtains if needed to change between more secluded and more open work spaces
• a small but well-equipped kitchen and bakery
• access to a pool of AV and sound equipment
• two large north-facing balconies
• specific needs and uses of the studio space will be discussed with anorak in a meeting prior to the residency, and coordinated with the other residents during the residency period

Who can apply

The call is open to Berlin-based artists, curators, and researchers working primarily in:

• time-based media, incl. but not limited to artists’ moving image, performance, and sound
• writers, poets, publishers, translators, editors
• culinary projects
• applications from collectives are welcome who want to collaborate with a partner outside their existing group
• contact with your collaborator has to be established prior to submission (especially if it is a new collaboration)

anorak lädt in Berlin ansässige Künstler:innen, Kurator:innen und Forschende aus den Feldern zeitbasierte Medien, Literatur, Übersetzung, Publishing und Kulinarik dazu ein, kollaborative Projektvorschläge für eine dreimonatige Residency (Zeitraum: 1. Juli – 30. September 2026) im anorak Studio in Berlin-Tempelhof einzureichen. 

In Berlin ansässige Künstler:innen und Kulturarbeiter:innen können sich mit einer:m Kollaborationspartner:in bewerben, über einen Zeitraum von drei Monaten im gemeinschaftlich genutzten anorak Studio zu arbeiten. Kollaborationen mit internationalen sowie in Berlin ansässigen Partner:innen, neue und bereits bestehende Kollaborationen sind willkommen, ebenso wie Bewerbungen von Kollektiven, die mit einer Person außerhalb ihrer bestehenden Gruppe zusammenarbeiten möchten. Die Residency eignet sich für Projekte, die von einer offenen Studioumgebung und einer dreimonatigen Arbeitsphase vor Ort profitieren.

Wir sind besonders an experimentellen Ansätzen interessiert, die sich zwischen unterschiedlichen Gemeinschaften, künstlerischen Praktiken und Wissensformen entfalten und vorgegebene Grenzen wie Genre, Disziplin, Kanon, Autor:innenschaft, Kohärenz und Zensur hinterfragen und verschieben.

Über die Residency

Der Fokus der Studio Residency liegt auf dem künstlerischen Prozess und der Recherche. Unser Ziel ist es dabei, sowohl informellen Dialog als auch strukturierte Formen des Austauschs zu ermöglichen.

Die Residency bietet freien Zugang zum anorak Studio im Zeitraum vom 1. Juli – 30. September 2026. Maximal 3 Projekte aus unterschiedlichen Bereichen werden ausgewählt, um nebeneinander im gemeinsam genutzten anorak Studio zu arbeiten. Im Verlauf der dreimonatigen Residency sind die Teilnehmenden eingeladen, eine Sharing Session zu organisieren und ihre Projekte untereinander sowie mit eingeladenen Gästen zu diskutieren. Gegen Ende der Residency besteht die Möglichkeit einer öffentlichen Präsentation, parallel zur Berlin Art Week (9.–13. September 2026).

Das anorak Studio

anorak ist ein kuratorisches Kollektiv, unabhängiger Kunstraum und Studio mit einem Fokus auf Artists’ Moving Image, Performance und Sound, geleitet von Lukas Ludwig und Johanna Markert. Das anorak Studio befindet sich im 8. Stock des ehemaligen Greenhouse in Berlin-Tempelhof und umfasst:

• einen 120 qm großen geteilten Studio- / Galerieraum sowie ein separates kleines Studio für Besprechungen
• die Möglichkeit, den Raum mittels Vorhängen in offenere oder abgeschirmte Arbeitsbereiche zu unterteilen
• eine kleine, gut ausgestattete Küche und Backstube
• Zugang zu einem Pool an AV- und Sound-Equipment
• zwei große, nach Norden ausgerichtete Balkone
• spezifische Bedarfe und Nutzungen des Studios werden vor Beginn der Residency in einem Treffen mit anorak (Johanna Markert und Lukas Ludwig) besprochen und mit den anderen Residents abgestimmt

• Literatur, Übersetzung, Publishing
• Kulinarische Projekte
• Bewerbungen von Kollektiven mit externen Kooperationspartner:innen sind willkommen
• Bei neuen Kollaborationen muss der Kontakt zu den Kollaborationspartner:innen bereits vor der Einreichung hergestellt werden.
